Editorial Policy

Last Updated: 20 May 2026

GovInfoIndia is committed to providing accurate, clear, and trustworthy information about Indian government services. This policy outlines the standards we hold ourselves to.

1. Editorial Mission

GovInfoIndia's editorial mission is to make Indian government information accessible to every citizen. We believe that understanding your rights, entitlements, and the procedures to access government services should not require legal expertise or bureaucratic insider knowledge.

Our content is written for the ordinary Indian citizen — in plain language, with step-by-step clarity, and without jargon.

2. Source Standards

GovInfoIndia only uses authoritative, official sources for factual claims. Our primary sources include:

  • Official Government of India portals (.gov.in, .nic.in)
  • Ministry and department websites (UIDAI, Income Tax Dept, MCA, etc.)
  • Official government press releases and circulars
  • Gazette of India notifications
  • State government official portals
  • Parliament.in and legislative documents

We do not use social media posts, unofficial forums, or unverified third-party websites as primary sources.

3. Fact-Checking Process

Our fact-checking process for every guide includes:

  1. Source Identification: Locate the relevant official government source
  2. Information Extraction: Extract factual information directly from the official source
  3. Cross-Verification: Cross-check with at least one additional official source where possible
  4. Date Verification: Confirm the information is current (not superseded by newer notifications)
  5. Review: Content reviewed by a second team member before publication
  6. Source Citation: Official source links included in the guide

4. Writing Standards

All GovInfoIndia content must meet these standards:

  • Plain Language: Written at a reading level accessible to the general public
  • Step-by-Step: Procedural guides broken into clear, numbered steps
  • Complete: Covers all requirements, fees, timelines, and common issues
  • Neutral Tone: Factual and objective — not promotional or opinionated
  • No Misleading Headlines: Headlines accurately reflect the content
  • Transparent Limitations: Clearly states when information may vary by state or situation

5. Content Updates

Government procedures, fees, eligibility criteria, and portals change frequently. Our update policy:

  • Major policy changes are updated within 48 hours of official notification
  • All guides are reviewed for accuracy at least every 6 months
  • Every guide displays a "Last Updated" date
  • Outdated guides are clearly marked pending update
  • Readers can report outdated information via our Contact page

6. Corrections Policy

We take factual accuracy seriously. When an error is identified:

  1. The error is investigated within 24 hours
  2. If confirmed, the content is corrected immediately
  3. A correction note is added to the article indicating what was changed and when
  4. Significant corrections are noted transparently at the top of the article

To report an error, please use our Contact page with the subject "Report Inaccurate Information."

7. Editorial Independence

GovInfoIndia's editorial content is entirely independent. We do not:

  • Accept payment to cover specific topics or schemes
  • Allow advertisers to influence our editorial content
  • Accept sponsored content disguised as editorial articles
  • Promote any political party or candidate
  • Receive funding from any government body

Our revenue comes from display advertising (Google AdSense). Advertising is clearly separated from editorial content and has no influence on what we cover or how we cover it.
